From the Classroom to the World: A Special Homecoming at the School of Art and Design of Gran Canaria

This past Valentine’s Day 2025 was truly special for me, I had the incredible honor of giving a talk at the School of Art and Design of Gran Canaria. Standing in the assembly hall where I once sat as a student, I had the chance to share my journey as a professional photographer, spanning the twenty years since I first stepped out of those classrooms into the real world.

The title of my talk, "From the Classroom to the World: My Photographic Journey After the School of Art of Gran Canaria", perfectly encapsulated what I aimed to convey. I wanted to inspire and encourage the current students by recounting my experiences, the challenges I faced, and the lessons I learned along the way. Transitioning from being a student with dreams to a working professional in the field of photography has been an adventure filled with both obstacles and rewards, and I was eager to share these insights with those who are now standing at the threshold of their own creative careers.

Walking through the halls of my alma mater after so many years was an emotional experience. The memories of long hours spent learning, experimenting, and developing my artistic vision came rushing back. But what made the moment even more special was reuniting with one of my former photography professors—a mentor who played a crucial role in shaping my passion and skills. Seeing a familiar face and reminiscing about the past added an extra layer of nostalgia and gratitude to the day.

It was a privilege to stand before the new generation of artists, to see their enthusiasm, curiosity, and determination. If my words and experiences could offer them even the slightest bit of motivation or guidance, then I consider this event a true success.

Returning to the place where it all began, I was reminded of how important it is to give back, to share knowledge, and to keep the artistic spirit alive. I left the school that evening with a full heart, deeply thankful for the opportunity to connect, reflect, and, hopefully, inspire.
