Malmö / Sweden
I visited Malmö on a day trip from Copenhagen during my second or third time in town. Malmö is the third largest city in Sweden, and one of the most eclectic places in the country. It’s a combination of both the old and the new, with fascinating historical buildings and modern architecture. Malmö was once owned by Denmark, eventually becoming Swedish in 1658. Stortorget is the main square in the city, developed back in 1540. There’s a good chance that you’ll wander through it at least once noticing the huge equestrian statue of King Karl X Gustav or the Malmö Rådhus. Nearby is Old Town Malmö (Gamla Staden), you’ll come upon the Gamla Väster district in the west part of the old town. It’s a very picturesque area of town with many old, cozy houses. A very nice area to take a wander around each quiet street to admire the colorful cottages. For a short getaway from Copenhagen to walk and have a few coffees, don't hesitate to pay a visit.
